Southern Pine Elevated Decks Save The Day!

Decking is the perfect solution to a sloping garden or for an area of boggy or poorly draining land.

Chris Lowe of Manchester Deck found these problems at two properties, the first a 17th century farmhouse on the Lancashire side of the Pennines and the second a large detached home in the Peak District.

At both locations, an elevated deck proved the solution – in each case, transforming a tricky area with a richly engineered structure to enhance the value and enjoyment of the family-sized home.

Chris said: “Decking was ideal for these difficult sites and treated Southern Pine was the ideal material because of its superior strength and durability over European pine.

“The farmhouse required the construction of 14 steps leading up to the deck from the garden, which gives an indication of the awkwardness of the terrain. The deck is at the same height as the home’s conservatory, providing the family with a very practical and highly attractive outdoor area, where before there were steep stone steps leading from the conservatory to the garden.”

Similar problems at the Peak District location were solved with the construction of a large deck overcoming a difference of two metres. Again the deck considerably enhances the home, providing an outside area, with secure balustrading, accessible directly from the conservatory.
